About Me

Timothy Black entered the United States Navy from Glendale, Arizona at age 19. He completed Recruit Training at Great Lakes, Illinois in 2010 and then headed to Fort Meade, Maryland to attend “A” School at Defense Information School as a Seaman Apprentice. After six months of training he was assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) completing a WESTPAC Deployment in 2011. After six months at the command he advanced to Petty Officer 3rd Class.
While aboard the Reagan, Petty Officer Black earned advanced qualifications ahead of schedule, became the Petty Officer 2nd Class and 3rd Class Association President, and advanced to Petty Officer 2nd Class. As the Photo Work Center Supervisor, his team released more than 1,300 images of which 300 were published on Navy.mil.
Petty Officer Black, after completing a successful tour aboard the Reagan, received orders to Naval Special Warfare Command, located on Naval Amphibious Base (NAB) Coronado, California.
During his time at NSWC, Black has briefed the NSWC Commander weekly, produced over 300 production jobs, and has been earned the title of Junior Sailor of the Quarter. He has created 17 layouts and written ten stories for the Command’s magazine and Navy News Stand. MC2 Black managed the transition from the print publication of Ethos to the online format of Ethos Live.
In his personal time, Black has attended courses at Vincennes University and earned his Associates of Science Degree in 2014. He is currently enrolled at National University, working on his Bachelors of Arts in English.
Black’s military awards include Good Conduct Medal, Navy/MC Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Ribbon, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and Pistol Marksmanship Medal.
