About Me

Hullo, and welcome to my page. My name is Preston Bullard, and I am the Author of LightShift. I am at the tender age of twenty years old, and live in the Great State of Illinois, in the Greater St. Louis Area...

The idea for this story came to me when I was probably 14 years old, a simple Freshman in high school, attending Triad High. I didn't have much of a social life and my childhood wasn't easy, and found solace in writing, and in poetry. The idea itself originated from the fact that my personal superpower would be to turn into any animal I wish, to escape from it all. And I thought to myself, what a cool premise for a story! And so I began to write. The story was never very solid, though I wrote for about a year straight, getting in about 131 pages... who am I kidding, it was exactly 131, I prided myself on every word written. It wasn't easy, and taxed my imagination to the max... Still, it was written from the perspective of a 14 year old boy, and that much showed. Eventually, I hit a wall and gave up. Still though, every few months, I would take it out and write a few pages, and then scrap them, never really giving up on the story.

Then, one day, four years later, I sat down with the portfolio I kept it in, opened it, and stared at the beginning of the story, with a pen and blank sheet of paper off to the side. I was going to write this story, I was going to finish it, and I was going to start over. It was actually easier the second time around. I was older, wiser, with a broader vocabulary, and had many more experiences than I had before. I knew what I wanted to write, and I knew how to write it. And so, Changelings began. Unfortunately, when I began to circulate the story around the web, at that time, there was a european movie coming out known by that title as well, and I got much negative criticism over that fact.

So, I changed the name to RedShift, for lack of a better name; Redshift is a form of electromagnetic radiation... I just thought it sounded cool, and figured I'd find some way to tie it into the story. That thought got old fast, and I no longer liked the name. And so, I settled on LightShift; representative of the changes between light and dark in the story, never knowing who to trust. And I rather Like it, and think I shall keep it there. I am hovering on the brink of changing the name to LifeShift; Which would be quite apt as well, considering the story line I have mapped out. Any feedback on that point would be extremely welcome.

The story is long and involved, and I haven't quite finished it yet, obviously, but what I mean to say is that I haven't quite mapped out the whole thing. I'm more of a hands on, go as it goes sort of guy, and I'm just as excited as any my fans to see how this story maps out... No fans shall be disappointed though, I will see this through to the end.

So come, Evolve with me, and we shall find our way back home.
