About MeDespite never really having thought of myself as a "writer," characters' stories and their worlds have always inevitably found me, begging to be brought to life. I've begun attempting to do them a bit of justice.
I guess I'd like to know whether or not it's something I should and pursue as a career, since I'm quite young have few other prospects. Unlike many writers, I don't write just for the sake of writing. My stories tend to have underlying themes and social narratives, which I feel are imperative for an artist of any sort to express. If you have the means of shaping the world around you, I feel you have an obligation to do so to the best of your ability. Perhaps it's pretentious to assume I could ever have a say in how the world turns, but at the same time, I can't not be conscious of it in my work. I think there's a difference between assuming you'll be the next big thing, and simply keeping in mind that possibility as one develops their work, to ask oneself, "If this Does become something, what do I really want to Say with it? What do I want others to take from it? What kind of message am I conveying?" I feel this is merely being responsible rather than arrogant. And so, here I am, seeking to understand just how well I might convey themes important to me in my work. If it's not something at which I can excel, I'm okay with that. For now, it's simply a question. |
