About Me
You can call me Astarte, or if you are into personals, Whitney will do just fine.
For basics, I am a Junior in college double majoring in English and Psychology. Interesting combination, yes, but it is due to my belief that writing can serve as a key form of therapy, which I plan to utilize. There is healing and relief in words.
Sitting here, I wish I could be like all those who confess that writing has always been a significant part of their lives, but alas, I cannot. It is with a wry fondness that I recall my initial response to writing - immense and utter detestation - complete abhorrence. It was with a grimace and a mentality that writing was a unique form of torture inflicted upon youth that I first shook hands with the art of words. Yet, while I may have been less than inclined to understand this art, it nevertheless never let go of my hand upon our meeting.
It was four years ago that my first dabbling into writing occurred in the form of cliche poetry. Dismayed by the fact it read nothing like a Robert Frost poem, I reasoned writing was a ridiculous pastime and that I was a lost cause. However, the possession of an over-active imagination refused to pass up such an opportunity, and within the year I was writing every week, expanding beyond poetry and into short stories. I became bored by conventional rules and regulations of what "good" writing was, and soon settled into experimenting with styles and formats with the delight of a child given paints and paper.
Words became the food and drink of my imagination.
There is a power in words, a throbbing life within each syllable, full of potential. I liken writing to painting; one may create a picture with oils, but I create a picture with words. I'm an imagery writer, and I have developed an obsession with the haiku.
I am only recently rekindling old muses, and I hope that this sight will serve as further inspiration. I crave reviews, positive and negative, so long as they are constructive. I am here to learn as much as I am to have my ego stroked.
Please, feel free to add me as a friend, send a message, or leave a review! I try to keep a policy that for every review I receive, I will give one back. You take time to read my works, and I will return the favor.
