About Me
I live in England, and love the English countryside, the music of Elgar and Holst which describes it so beautifully and the poetry of John Clare, the 'peasant poet' and Gerard Manley Hopkins, which describes it.
My own poetry is written in whatever style I feel suitable to the subject - I have a particular empathy with the sonnet form but sometimes treat the same subject to several different styles. Experiment with words fascinates me. I write purely for pleasure and have no ambition to be published though if soething was picked up, I would not object, I suppose.
I am a retired electrical engineer, but have an Honours degree in Art History, gained while still working from the wonderful British 'Open University. That was done for sheer pleasure, changed my life, and involved me in travel all over Renaissance Europe and Ancient Greece during vacations. Now I'm getting past the stage of athleticism, most of my foreign visits are 'revisits' and in the mind at that, though I still wander the UK pretty well, but look at the mountains now rather than climb them.
Visiting Art Galleries and fine gardens, buildings, old cities and cathedrals fascinates me.
I write poetry, short stories and about my travels. No particular subjects - just what takes my attention at the time - Ah! the joys of retirement. I also lecture a bit - I am not an intellectual type - I try to talk from a very practical standpoint.
Food, country walking, travel, humour, gardening and a host of other lovely things give me pleasure, all of which I have shared with my wonderful wife, Dorothy for more than fifty years.
