About Me

I'm a mystery/suspense type. I can't help it. I grew up on Grandma's old Agatha Christie paperbacks, later moving on to MM Kaye and Mary Higgins Clark. In high school I scared myself half to death with Gaston Leroux's Phantom of the Opera. But somewhere between Agatha and Gaston I learned I like to scribble my own tales. I've written one novel that, alas, was too short to be considered for publication. I will do better with the one I'm currently writing!
Another writer told me about this website. I have infested Booksie.com now for nearly a year and I like it, but I'm ready to branch out a little. I will start here with a short story of mine, "The Widow's Painting." I hope readers enjoy it.

"
Life has loveliness to sell,
All beautiful and splendid things,
Blue waves whitened on a cliff,
Soaring fire that sways and sings,
And children's faces looking up,
Holding wonder like a cup.

Life has loveliness to sell,
Music like a curve of gold,
Scent of pine trees in the rain,
Eyes that love you, arms that hold,
And for your spirit's still delight,
Holy thoughts that star the night.

Spend all you have for loveliness,
Buy it and never count the cost;
For one white singing hour of peace
Count many a year of strife well lost,
And for a breath of ecstacy
Give all you have been, or could be."
