About Me

I am 43 years old and an accountant by profession, although my intent is to some day become a published author. I have been married since I was 17 and have two children aged 23 and 17. I also have three dogs (and would have more if I could). My main hobbies are reading, writing, and collecting TY Beanie Babies (I am only missing a handful to have them all).
Otherwise...I am very much in transition right now. I have struggled throughout my lifetime with emotional and behavioral disorders, abusive relationships, eating disorders and insanity...all of which have improved dramatically in recent years but are still very much a part of me. I feel that I am in-situ right now, balancing on the edge between who I was and who I might become yet not really anywhere at all at the moment.

I post under the name Emerging Soul at the Elite Skills site and was directed here by another writer.

Perhaps this will be a place where I can discover my true identity...

Comes the Dawn

(Veronica A. Shoffstall)

After a while you learn the subtle difference
Between holding a hand and chaining a soul.

And you learn that love doesn't mean leaning
And company doesn't mean security,
And you begin to understand that kisses aren't contracts
And presents aren't promises,
And you begin to accept your defeats with your head held high and eyes opened,
With the grace of a woman, not the grief of a child.

You learn to build your roads on today
Because tomorrow's ground is too uncertain for plans,
And futures have a way of falling down in mid-flight.

After a while you learn that even sunshine burns if you get too much,
So you plant your own garden and decorate your own soul,
Instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers,
And you learn that you really can endure,
That you really are strong.
And you really do have worth.

And you learn and learn...
With every goodbye comes the dawn.
