About Me

With each iteration, I find these self-descriptions harder to write-- I wonder why that is?

I am a Danish national, but have lived in the US since 1981; these days I call the historic hamlet of Port Townsend, WA "home." This place is not only home to my physical body, it also feels like the "home" that can be found after a long journey of soul-seeking.

My life has been "about words" since I was six or seven years old. Family lore holds that my mother bought me some blank exercise books (this I DO know to be true) in the hope that I might be artistic (she hoped I would "draw outside the lines"), and in a matter of weeks I filled them... but not with images, with WORDS.

I am a writer by calling, but hardly by profession. I write because I have to; I write because there are words inside my head and unless I let them out, I fear my noggin' will explode. Alas, I fit squarely within the assertion by Writer's Digest that "the majority of writers make less than $5,000 a year from their work."

I have been told that part of my "problem" is that I don't write anything popular, mainstream or useful. Truth is, maybe those people are right: Most of my writing takes the form of commentary, insight and essays that often invite people to look into dark corners that hide truths most would rather not look at. I never was much good at "sunshine and puppies" prose.

The rest of the time, I make ends meet as an eBay entrepreneur, a dealer in rare postage stamps, a beachcomber and occasional events coordinator. I write in many different places on the web, from blogs to web site content. The link listed here is to one of my blogs.
