About Me

I started writing because of words. I've always loved the way words sound; the way they *feel*, I guess you'd say. (: Words like fire, breathe, and rustle *live*, spoken aloud or in your mind. It's said that pictures are worth a thousand words, but I think the best words are worth *more* than a thousand pictures. Of course, I'm biased. ;)
Later, I got into creating worlds. First silly, fantastic places, then cynical distopias. More and more I try to use both elements and create a place that feels *real*. Making an imaginary world feel like a place that people *really* live is one of the abilities I most admire (and envy ;) ) in a writer.
People fascinate me. I'm constantly going back and forth between loving and hating our entire species, but either way I'm just enthralled by personalities, relationships, emotions, spirit...Everything! But especially how people become who they are, and who they *truly* are. People have so many parts to them. J.P. Wickwire, who I'm much, *much* more than lucky to be writing with, once said, "It takes three characters to make a character three-dimensional." and though I suppose there are bound to be exceptions to the rule, it *is* a rule. And a good one. (: Think about it: in each relationship a person is in they show a different side of themselves. Even the most shallow people do. You see it all the time. A friend who is outgoing around you may be completely silent around somebody else. A teacher who is fierce towards her students may be meek towards the principal. So, if your character is interacting with three other characters, they should end up with three sides, making them three-dimensional. And yes, grammar/mechanics are definitely *not* my strong point. (:
I think I'm writing today because of questions more than anything else . Little questions, big questions...Questions that are phrased by a sentence, a chapter, or by a whole book. They can be spoken or shown. They can point discreetly (or not so discreetly, sometimes ;) ) to an answer, or they can just hold their arms up in a hopeless, shrugging, prayer-ful gesture; the gesture of, why? Or WHY? Or WHY?!?!?! (you can tell I'm into theater arts, can't you? ;) ) So I started writing because of words and I keep writing because of why. Go figure. Obviously I have a thing for Ws. ;)
