Bio For Avery V. Carter

Avery V. Carter was raised in Bessemer, AL where he first began to write contemporary prose at the age of 14. Avery matriculated through the Bessemer City School System from grades K-12 and later graduated from Miles College. Avery returned to his Alma Mater of Jess Lanier High School in Bessemer after receiving his B. S. in Biology to teach science from 1997-2000. Avery began performing his contemporary prose as spoken word at the Phoenix in Fairfield, AL in 2001 where the brother Jenoa Timbuktu Smith was the host. Since that moment Avery has continued writing and performing spoken word. Averys first self-published book entitled: BESSEMER CITY LIMITS: Poetry for Everyday People, was released on October 16, 2006. Avery sold out of his first 300 books ordered in just two weeks, which was only available locally in the Birmingham area at the time.
