The Nine Satanic Statements

From The Satanic Bible by Anton Szandor LaVey

1. Satan represents indulgence instead of abstinence!

2. Satan represents vital existence instead of spiritual pipe dreams!

3. Satan represents undefiled wisdom instead of hypocritical self-deceit!

4. Satan represents kindness to those who deserve it instead of love wasted on ingrates!

5. Satan represents vengeance instead of turning the other cheek!

6. Satan represents responsibility to the responsible instead of concern for psychic vampires!

7. Satan represents man as just another animal, sometimes better, more often worse than those that walk on all-fours, who, because of his “divine spiritual and intellectual development,” has become the most vicious animal of all!

8. Satan represents all of the so-called sins, as they all lead to physical, mental, or emotional gratification!

9. Satan has been the best friend the Church has ever had, as He has kept it in business all these years!

Having read the Satanic Bible several times, I can say that what LaVey successfully accomplished was to take the ordinary art of just being a normal person, packaged it into a religious format, and slapped the "Satanic" label on in for the express purpose of pissing off the church. Drop off the "Satanic" label, and read these again, and it is all really just honest appraisal of the human race. Except for #9, which is straight truth.

Satan bares a striking resemblance to Pan, king of the Satyrs from the old Greek tales. Pan was all about the passions which the Greeks reckoned to be trouble. The Christians picked up on this imagery and lumped everything they deemed a sin, that is anything of the flesh into a sort of universal adversary for Yahweh to slap around when he got out of line. Eventually Saint Thomas came along with the concept of hell as a torturous place of fire and brimstone. The Satan myth we know today evolved from there along side the belief in demons causing everything from yeast infections to the invasion of the Huns. I believe in a literal Satan about as much as I believe in a literal God who involves himself in the daily lives of man. It amounts to magical thinking for grown ups and in the 21st century you'd think we'd know better but millions of people still believe in creationism which is only second to Noah's Ark for the silliest of biblical tales when taken literally

I like imaginary characters such as Satan and Jesus, they're amusing. Interesting read and write.

I assume Satanism as an erratic and yet exotic to discuss and research. And yet, it is slightly direful to research or either pursuit the Ouija or Black Wicca tradition. It is very frightening and I have never attempted these, but I would enjoy speaking to one of tranquil or brutal conceptions.
