To all who have known the trials of a life beset with tribulation. I would just like to say the things that make life worth living are not to be found in pursuit of wealth. I never remembered anyone fondly for the station they held in life.True wealth for me is held within the hearts of those I have loved and who dared to love me.

Life would be unbearable without our friends, whose souls, if we're truly lucky, mirror ours. I love the nostalgia and wisdom your poem evoked in me dear author. Lovely writing :)
I agree with the sentiments of your poem. Your last two lines say it all really. I have never been greatly impressed by people of wealth or position - friendship should be earned. I'd rather be wealthy than poor, but I am neither (in the conventional sense), so that's OK. True friends are a treasure for life... and even beyond. I enjoyed the read!

Most of my old schoolfriends have moved away, and we have lost touch, but a couple of them are still in contact and I still regard them as true friends.
Amen! I have not always been the best as a friend could be and find this poem to speak such pristine truth. Here's to your friends, and hoping they receive all the benefits herein contained in this moving tribute poem. Thanks for sharing. Frederick.

Wow. That is worth true emulation and passing forward: "Take less than you give." Thanks, afresh.

You are welcome. A life that cost more than it produces is no way to immortality
Hi Tate,
First of all I love the photo..Is it of you and you friends? Yes of course I see that now as I reread your poem...
And, the photo went along so well with your wonderful poem.. The title is oh so perfect.
I remember quite well being young and waiting for the weekend to appear.. Seemed to take forever...I counted the minutes.. Now, and for at least the past 30 odd years my time seems to fly by.. Am I happier and doing what I want..so time just evaporates?? I think so...at least for me.
Having great friends adds to the quality of ones life..Loving and being loved is ever so important.

As for the time slippage. My theory is that from 0 to 20 years everything seems to be a new experience enhance a memory for each and every new experience the older we get the fewer new experiences we have. Hence like a notch on a gun we simply mark it up as another version of the original and we don’t have a separate memory for it when looking back we find it it seems like time slipped by it took just as long We just don’t remember it as well because there aren’t as many memories as they were when we were young

I have had so many new experiences since i was 20 and not duplicates... I have made my life an adventure with doing new things and things I wanted to do when I was young..For example...began playing piano for the first time when I was 50...still doing that...moving to another country 1 1/2 years ago... such a different experience...I am trying to look at my life the way you expressed life as "gun notches" you say as we get older the fewer experience we have...but again I continue to experience new things in my life and I am 74. I do think you lose your innocence and some get jaded along the way...
Did you read my poem Innocence?
Lisa, now in Spain..making new experience

I’ll do that. Hi to try to do new things wrote my first poem at 47 years old
You express your longings & reminisces with a ton of relatable details . . . like certain sounds, flavors, songs, pastimes . . . all the familiar ideas that conjure up a sweet melancholy concoction! You are blessed to be worthy of your friends (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

You don’t have a theory about why we think time runs faster as we get older. From 1 to 20 most of our experiences are new ones. So the mind makes room for them. After that quite a few of them are repeats of original experiences. The mind doesn’t do anything in that regard except notch the gun. So the fewer new experiences we have if you were memories we have. Looking back over 60 years it seems that the last 20 went by quickly. However they did not. They simply were a repeat of the first 20 in many regards. When we run out of new experiences and new memories it’s all over

It can't be generalized. The last 10, for me, lasted about 30 years *smile*

pretty cool sentiments well said Tate...glad you are posting .. i have missed your presence here ... i have seen the pic of you three before but the poem is a little different isn't it? the humility in your closing lines is a beacon sir ... i think to be worthy of our friends is not typically our first thoughts ... at least in the beginnings of friendships ... your note is also very inspiring .. :)
