The Error of My Ways

The Error of My Ways

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

I walked the earth so emboldened in my brazen younger days That I missed chances so golden for the poor error of my ways

"

My rendition of my inner self.Graphite on canvas.

Every sweet life flowers golden

mixing old colors in with the new

Creating a wonderful child each time

of a mixed ever changing hue

My life has been both heartache

along by spirits of love in rain

Tossed up around and foundered

with the dreams I cannot attain

As I recall the lost soft beauty

of aching spirits in still delight

I looked to God's sweet Heaven

with thoughts that stir the night

For life's time waits on none of us

it masters fate with earnest callous

Caring for none in favored mercy

helping not whom it shows malice

But I shall have known wisdom

with his brother mighty pain

As my friends they so haunt me

with joys I'll never know again

I walked the earth so emboldened

in my brazen younger days

That I missed chances so golden

for the poor error of my ways

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
I'm sure given the same circumstances and life. I would do the same things again. Such is the truth of humanity. We do not think much on the truths of life until we are made to. If only we could live life backwards. I think I would like to be Benjamin Button.

This is a very tender verse....and again BRAVO on song choice:) Time waits for no one is so very true, when you added "it masters fate with earnest callous" you set the tone of this write beautifully. All the times we hurt, hurt another or tumble and fall on our path I think is what makes the rest of our journey a wonderful ride and pleasant to the soles of our feet. I would love go back in time and right some wrongs, but then again if I did not have those experiences I would not be the wise woman I am today. Wonderful write!

Missed chances and overlooked opportunities, such and more that gives us fodder for contemplation and hindsight. The past couple of years have been a force to reckon with in terms of introspection and self-examination. As we gradually work our way out of it I realise how few of us have even deigned to take on that force of circumstance. And ah, to be Benjamin Button. Good stuff Tate! Freds.

Lol we all have those moments when we wish we had listened rather than spoke.thank you Sharon
I believe most of us can look back at our youth and wish we could have done some things differently. With age comes wisdom. It's no use crying over spilt milk though. We have to accept and move on with the desire to do better. Pleased to have the chance to read this older poem from your library Tate. Beautifully penned, as all your work is.

You’re such a peach Chris love ya thanks
Again, wonderful poem. The most striking feature to me is how you filled it with very evocative images, wisdom is another feature embodied by every verse, the perception I got was that of listening Experience speaking, the individual/universal divide has been played curiously as it tends to fade as the reader can easily relate, great poem.

I can certainly relate to this but never think of much having this fantasy life in older age. A great wife and happy children make the cup runneth over.

Agreed I am easily amused myself and had all the running i could stand in youth thank you
i understand the feeling in this...and yes, sometimes i would like to be Benjamin Button and go backwards...
chances missed, chances taken...wisdom gained late in life applied to what happened earlier in life.
what possibilities there would be...and then the realization...there is just one shot.

What a beautiful reflection.. It highlights the bright, loving spirit and the choices made through the journey of life..

The song and video add such a profound depth to this piece and have me misty-eyed over here.. Jeez, Tate.. so amazing.. so moving... so powerful... It makes you think yes, but it knocks you down with EMOTION...

The tone and flow of the piece feel so enchanting and captivates your spirit floating you along the gorgeous words and lifts you up with the spirituality and elegance in which it is expressed..

You are an amazing writer, person, and friend.. thank you for sharing this with me... I love it..

Well I am sure every one of us are guilty of this Tate. Such a thoughtful poem and I don't know what I would do if I went back. It is sad when we don't make the most of our lives from not using both our hearts and heads to make decisions.
Love your 5th verse with wisdom and pain both integral to each other.
Excellent writing!
