Some people just aren't meant to be together. Yet try to tell them that and both will join in chorus to rail against your attempt. Yet when they are apart they cannot seem to function without each other. Such is the mystery of love. I am old enough to remember the life, times and sufferings of Tammy Wynette and her ill-fated marriage to George Jones. In a 20/20 interview with George I remember how he still choked on her name and held his love for her long after she was gone. I imagine for him that is a tragedy with great remorse and sorrow.

"He stopped loving her today", that's what this brings to mind for me, one of the saddest country songs ever sung, and I think he sang it with her in mind. It's funny how sometimes we most want and crave that which is worst for us and our state of mental health. That which causes us to feel the most, be it good or bad, is often most memorable in our lives and hearts.

'Love's Refrain'
Tate,
Yea some people are just built to stick it out, to commit regardless. I am divided with this because of the reality of the wrongs within these types of commitments. That said we are all so complex and it does take commitment to stay in a healthy relationship. This one though, well I have a close relative which stayed married till the death of her spouse. Alcohol was what her husband dealt with as did she of course. It's been nice to peruse today on WC, yours included.
Bless you Tate.

Thank you Kathy. I am still friends with her. But not close anymore.we share grandchildren though

'I can't live with you, and I can't live without you'!!!!! And the memory is still there, even when she is gone.
'Sometimes when night whistles in
the wind plays love's refrain.'
I love the sensitivity in this poem.

You are needed for your romantic qualities. Just for a 1 off poem ... amongst friends. Because the outcome would benefit from different perspectives. You're gonna write the romantic part for me. Only if you want to mind. For FUN.
But we both know the romantic in you will compel you until your heart yields lol
I'm gonna write the intro part ... it needs my cheesy touch.
It's an Ode to Poetry ... And because romance is the key to LOVE ... I would be honoured if you post the final version on your site.
Do this ... because making something happen ... makes a difference.
Plus I want you to meet the other Musketeers ... all 3 of I met this day.
I'm not a musketeer myself. I'm the Landlord of the Paper Tavern .. An establishment of the finest digital beer and comradeship!

It's good that you guys havn't met before. It will be special. 3 very different poets, different styles :)
This is a very gentle & poetic way to describe those who become addicted to drama & pain in relationships. The respectful tone doesn't glorify this quest for war-torn love, but it definitely conveys an authentic acceptance. Very relatable, as many prefer drama to contentment (just look what's popular on reality TV!)
For line 2, "a sorrowed, war, torn, guest" . . . might be better as: "a sorrowed, war-torn guest"
(slight punctuation tweaks).

i am not familiar with Tammy's story but your poem hits its mark (you always do sir) love that ravages the contenders must be one of the most painful of tragedies .. brings to my thoughts of what love really is .. i have never found a more apt description than this:
"1 Corinthians 13:4-7 New International Version ..
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."
we must be missing something when loving someone causes them such pain :)
