Vampire Birds

Vampire Birds

A Poem by Tina Kline

Vampire birds wing through the night
Swift shadows in the moon's silver light
They fly in between bushes and trees
Nature holds them not, they are eternally free

Hunger drives them from their nest
They hunger for blood, to bite deep into flesh
Their red eyes see into everywhere
When they spot prey, their crimson orbs flare

They seek to take the life of the living
In return death is all they are giving
Vampire birds with a hunger that burns
Soon their human victims will tragically learn

The night is their comfort and disguise
Nothing escapes their all seeing eyes
Once prey is spotted the vampire birds flock
A shadow of death, life they do mock

The vampire birds attack their feast
The many act together as one deadly beast
Many bites and quickly the blood flows
Weaker becomes the prey, stronger the predator grows

Death arrives once again in the moon's light
More vampire birds come forth to haunt the night
Sharp white fangs glisten and red eyes flame
They come to deliver death by way of excruciating pain

A very dark spooky poem, makes my hair stand up all on end. Next time I go walking in the pine forests around my home at night I'll be looking behind me and overhead as well.
