The String of FateA Poem by Rose DiamondThis is a poem based off of the Asian myth called The Red String of Fate. The String of Fate The invisible red string that is said to connect soul mates by the pinkie A string that can get tangled and torn Mangled and knotted But will never break I see them everywhere Red lines that crisscross before my eyes Tangled lines Straight lines Lines as short as a child's arm And lines that reach beyond seas I see newly weds with mismatched strings And enemies that are unknowingly connected Oh Fate, thou art a heartless b***h Do you really trust us humans to find our other halves? Do you not expect us to pluck the wrong string Believing that we have found our true love? Each day I watch people suffer All because of you, dear Fate I taste their tears I feel their broken hearts And their scars Both emotional and physical Become my own as I see them struggle against your tides I hate to see lovers who don't share the same fate But even more so I hate to witness the meeting of soul mates For that moment of recognition That sparkle of true love in their eyes That first amorous kiss It all makes me wish that the string around my own pinkie Wasn't cut so short
