About Me

Dear all,

I'm a 46 year old woman living in Europe.
My passions are: reading, writing, poetry, blogging, languages, nature, walking, making friends. Curious? Who am I?
You can read it all in the biographical story which I just added to my writings. Oh yes, my friends will recognise it instantly to be the bio that was up here before.
Since this is a writer's site, posting a general bio about all my multiple interests seemed a bit pointless.
So I am here to write!
So far I have been making attempts to write English poetry and the odd onset to a book.

Currently, I am still working as a social worker, but it is my goal to return to my first love: languages. At this point in my life, I would love to work as an editor, translator or copywriter. When it comes to proficiency in English, I regard this site as my portfolio.

My native tongue is Dutch as it is spoken in Belgium, where it is called Flemish; I also am able to express myself in Dutch as it is spoken in Holland. Reading this, you might be wondering.
What is the difference between Dutch in Holland and Dutch in Belgium, well I guess you can compare it with the differences between UK English and US English.

My paternal language is French, because my dad grew up in an era where it was customary to receive your formal education in French. Coming from this background my proficiency in French equals my proficiency in both Dutch and English.

English is the language I feel most comfortable to write in, since a lot of television programmes here are in English with Dutch subtitles. From an early age on, I always tried to lay a link between the English I heard and the subtitles I read ... Later, after highschool, I went on to study English at University level.

German is the third national language in my country, so I found it very important to be able to study as a chosen subject at school. Like English, I have studied German at University level.

Turkish is the language I picked up during my first job working as a paediatric nurse/social worker, in a neighbourhood with a lot of inhabitants of Turkish descent. I did take 2 years of evening classes in order to learn basic Turkish, which I am still able to use today.

Serbo - Croat is the last language I am going to mention here: I never had lessons, but I picked it up from our translator at work, while I was working with refugees fleeing the war in the countries that formerly were known as 'Yougoslavia'

So, after writing this and reading this before posting, I cannot but diagnose myself with multiple language disorder!
I hope you will enjoy my work and if you want some of your work read, you can send me read requests in any of the languages mentioned above!

What Mythological Creature are you? (Cool Pics!)
created with QuizFarm.com
You scored as Angel

Angel: Angels are the guardians of all things, from the smallest ant to the tallest tree. They give inspiration, love, hope, and positive emotion. They live among humans without being seen. They are the good in all things, and if you feel alone, don't fear. They are always watching. Often times they merely stand by, whispering into the ears of those who feel lost. They would love nothing more then to reveal themselves, but in today's society, this would bring havoc and many unneeded questions. Give thanks to all things beautiful, for you are an Angel.
